Bail rejected for 'tainted' CPWD engg

He has been remanded into police custody till August 28.

The CBI sleuths on Saturday raided Sandhu’s office in the first floor of Kendriya Sadan in Koramangala for allegedly taking Rs one lakh bribe. The sleuths also raided his residence and unearthed Rs seven lakh cash and seized records pertaining to his two flats in New Delhi and three flats in Bangalore.

According to CBI sources, Sandhu used to demand two per cent of the estimated cost of a project from contractors. According to the norms in the Department, an officer should be transferred every three years. However, Sandhu managed to stay back bribing his higher ups, the sources added. He is said to have amassed more than Rs 10 crore after he came to Bangalore four-and-half years ago.

Sandhu is alleged to have demanded Rs one lakh bribe from G Parandham Naidu to issue completion certificate for a project. Naidu lodged a complaint with the CBI and met Sandhu at his office to hand over Rs one lakh. Seconds later, the sleuths raided the office and seized the bribe amount which he had kept in his suitcase.

A simultaneous raid was conducted on his residence where property disproportionate to his known sources was unearthed. The court rejected the bail plea of J S Sandhu on the ground that the Public Prosecutor has to file objections.
