BBMP 'truth': Only 108 illegal hoardings in City

The BBMP Council had discussed illegal hoardings at length in a meeting two months ago. Subsequently, an “arduous” conducted a survey conducted by the Palike “revealed” that there were only 108 illegal hoardings in the City’s seven urban zones, except Dasarahalli. However, Kacharakanahalli Corporator Padmanabha Reddy strongly contests the findings. Dismissing the BBMP claims, he furnished what he terms “irrefutable” evidence to establish that there are 2,413 illegal billboards in the City. He took photographs of each of these hoardings.

“The BBMP claims that there are 1,993 licensed and 108 illegal hoardings where as I have taken some 4,300 pictures. How does the Palike accounts for 2,300 and odd extra photographs?” he questioned, contradicting the Palike numbers. However, the BBMP officials said the survey findings are the final word on the numbers. They said 98 hoardings were removed at different parts of the City. Reddy alleged corruption in awarding contracts for billboards. His outburst comes at a time when the Opposition is faulting the BBMP for incurring Rs 300 cr loss on billboards. Reddy said he would approach the Lokayukta if the BBMP officials refused to act on the information provided by him.
