Group clash: Congress worker succumbs

The rivalry was simmering since the GP polls held recently

Paramesh had been admitted to Malya hospital on Saturday last but died on Wednesday due to excess blood loss and other complications.

The body is being brought to his native village where last rites would be performed on Thursday.

Nagamangala MLA Suresh Gowda visited the village to oversee preparations for the last rites. He said Union External Affairs Minister S M Krishna,
Leader of Opposition in Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah, KPCC Working President D K Shivakumar and others are expected to participate in the last rites. Tension is prevailing in the village. Police have deployed sufficient police force in the village as a precautionary measure.

Background

The activists of Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) parties had clashed at the village on Saturday.

The hand of Paramesh, a Congress worker had been chopped off allegedly by JD(S) workers. In retaliation, Congress workers had set fire to houses of five JD(S) workers. The rivalry was simmering since the GP polls held recently. Two persons, one each from Congress and JD(S) have On August 13 night, JD(S) activist B M Raghu, who is also brother- in- law of former MLC K T Srinkantegowda and another worker Shankaregowda allegedly picked up quarrel with Congress worker Pujari Venkatesh in connection with GP polls. At this juncture, Congress workers Paramesh and Krishnamurthy interfered. It resulted in a wordy duel followed by fisticuffs.  The situation became serious around midnight as Paramesh gave mouthful to Raghu.

In retaliation, Raghu and Shankaregowda  picked up a fight with Paramesh and Krishnamurthy when they were coming on a bike this morning. Shankaregowda who lost temper and reportedly chopped the hand Paramesh with a sharp weapon and also assaulted Krishnamurthy. Later, he fled the scene.As this news spread like wild fire, Congress workers set fire to the houses of Raghu and Shankatregowda. They also damaged furniture and other valuables from their houses.

The Congress activists also assaulted JD(S) activists, Chandru, Mangegowda, Rudra, Nanjegowda and Doddahucchaiah who are severely injured.
