2 die after consuming liquor

The dead are Rajanna (38) and Kempavenkatamma (48), both daily wage workers. They had bought a popular brand whisky from an unauthorised vendor Munniraju who used to buy liquor from Vijay Wines and sell them in the village. Munniraju is absconding.

Rajanna died on August 19. He complained of chest pain after consuming the liquor and was rushed to K C General Hospital. He was referred to Victoria Hospital where he died. The police said: “Rajanna’s family members did not inform us about the incident and cremated his body.”

Kempavenkatamma, wife of Narasimham Murthy died on Friday night after consuming the liquor of the same brandh. “We are not sure about the quality of the liquor. The bottle is genuine and the content has been sent for chemical analysis. We are also waiting for the post-mortem report,” the police said.

However, the family members of both the victims blamed the ‘illicit’ liquor. They said: “Both of them died after consuming the same brand. We want authorities concerned to take appropriate action.”

Bangalore Division (Excise) Joint Commissioner Nagendrappa said, the course of investigation depends on the report of the chemical analysis. Nagendrappa said, both of them used to buy liquor from Munniraju for quite a long time.  The police are on the lookout for Munniraju.

Child dies in mishap

A one-and-half year old child died after he came under the wheels of a four-wheeler in Agara on Outer Ring Road on Friday. Police said Perumal and his mother Lakshmi were crossing the road around 11.30 am on Friday.

“Lakshmi escaped with minor injuries. The driver abandoned the vehicle and is absconding.  The car has been seized, police added.
