Panama-flagged ship with 6 Indians hijacked by Somali pirates

On August 2, MV Suez was fired upon by pirates with small arms while the vessel was sailing in a recommended shipping lane in the Gulf of Aden.

Although the crew called for help, the pirates were on board by the time a naval helicopter arrived, DGS said in a statement.

However, other details about the vessel and its crew are awaited, the statement said.

MV Suez, managed by the Red Sea Navigation Company Suez, is a general cargo ship loaded with an unspecified amount of cement and was headed from Karachi to Massawa in Eritrea, the DGS said
