'Gang of cops' rob women in city

In a span of four hours, three homemakers relieved of jewellery worth Rs 2.10 lakh

Deploying similar tactics, a gang of miscreants have conned three women in separate cases in the city on Thursday decamping with a booty about Rs 2.10 lakh.
In the first case, that happened around 8 am, Mythili, wife of Srinivasan, eighth cross, V V Mohalla was stopped by a youth on Gokulam main road. Mythili was returning home from Venkataramana Swamy Temple nearby.

The youth guided her towards a person, whom he told was a cop. The person who claimed himself as a cop in mufti told Mythili that a woman called Sharadamma has been robbed at knife point. “You may also meet the same fate”, he warned Mythili asking her to take his advice. Initially reluctant, Mythili was forced, as he insisted on removing the valuables. Mythili removed two each of gold chains and bangles she was wearing.
The ‘cop’ took the valuables and wrapped it in a piece of paper, before handing it over to her. It was only after walking a distance Mythili unwrapped to find imitating jewellery. She had lost valuables worth about Rs 70,000.

In the second case, Saraswathamma wife of Parameshwar, of Vivesvaraya Industrial Suburb, in Vidyaranyapuram was robbed in a similar modus operandi, but by three strangers. She was returning home after booking LPG cylinder, when she was approached by a stranger near third main of Vidyaranyapuram. The latter told her to remove the valuables and to win her confidence asked a passerby (suspected to be his accomplice) to do so. Believing in his words, Saraswathamma removed her ‘mangalsutra’ and two gold bangles worth Rs 50,000 and was tying it to the end of her saree, when she was called by another in Hindi, from rear. Saraswathamma told that person, she was unable to understand Hindi, while another offered to help her by keeping ornaments safe in a piece of paper. However, it didn’t take much time for Saraswathamma to learn that she was conned. In the third case, that happened around 11.45 am, Vedavathi Sharma wife of Jayaram Sharma of Paduvarahalli was robbed near third main, Jayalakshmipuram. The elderly couple was walking towards Raghavendra Swamy Mutt in J L  Puram when the incident occurred. They lost two each of gold chain and bangle worth about Rs 90,000. Police suspect the handiwork of the same gang involved in all the three cases.

Murder
A youth was found murdered at gurukula on Ramanuja road in the city on Thursday evening. The victim who still remains unidentified is punched on his face. It was evident with the cut on his lips, according to K R Police. He is aged about 30 years, 5.4 feet tall, dark in complexion and lean built. The body has been shifted to MMC and RI mortuary. ACP N Vishnuvardhan, Inspector Srinivas visited the spot. A case has been registered.

Body found
South police have recovered a highly decomposed body from Varuna canal near Gorur on Thursday. The victim who  is yet to be identified, is oval faced, well built, 5.2 feet tall, wearing ‘mangalsutra’. Relatives may contact the police on 2520260.
