Dance is something that is more than just work for them. It is a passion which can be seen in their movements when they grace the dance floor flawlessly. Having started their career in a ballroom dance studio in Russia, Sergey and Polina have come a long way, combining their extraordinary dance skills to participate and win various dance contests through the world.

Having already won the China Salsa Championship and Asian Salsa Open Championship, this duo was recently in India as a part of the fifth India International Salsa Congress to conduct workshops and showcase their dance skills. Metrolife spoke to the dancing duo about their visit to India, on various dance styles and what they want to see in this country.

Sergey and Polina, who hail from Russia, are actually Modern dancers. “We only started learning salsa about one year ago,” says Sergey. So how is it that they became part of the Salsa Congress? “We actually met Lourd Vijay in Hong Kong during the Asian championship. He really liked our performance and invited us over here,” says Polina. They go on to talk a little about dance events such as these and their impact. “These kinds of events are really good for people who want to dance and really want to learn alternative dance forms,” says Polina.

This is something they felt even while teaching Bangaloreans. “Both of us taught a few classes during the workshops on lifts and tricks and Jazz,” says Sergey. And what surprised them were the participants. “We generally teach advance level students but we didn’t expect people to be that great. All of them wanted to learn something new,” says Polina. “We gave them small routines and many of them followed them quite easily,” she says.

Both of them were seen performing a spectacular Modern dance routine and hip-shaking Rumba in the final production. “We have enjoyed our experience here very much,” says Sergey.

“The people here have been really nice to us which has made everything even more enjoyable,” he adds. While travelling is a part and parcel of their daily lives, this is the first time they are in India. “This is the first time we are travelling to India,” says Sergey. “And we really like the place,” he adds. “We want to see everything possible, maybe a few temples when we have time,” says Polina.

Both of them also have the desire to visit other places in the country though they aren’t sure which ones yet. “We would like to visit the country again sometime and see other cities too,” says Sergey signing off.
