US gunman kills former girlfriend, four others

The incident occurred on Saturday in Arizona’s Lake Havasu City, when 26-year-old Brian Diez opened fire while Deborah Langstaff (23) and friends were celebrating her boyfriend’s birthday. In all, five people died, including Langstaff and her boyfriend, Primo Verdone (24), police said.

Langstaff had taken out a restraining order earlier this year preventing Diez from seeing her or her children after he was charged with slapping their infant son. After opening fire, Diez took their two children, a 13-month-old and a 4-year-old, and drove to California.

Police traced Diez to a California residence where they discovered he had committed suicide by shooting himself. The children were unharmed at the house with family members.
