The Councillors exude confidence of getting a hike three to four times more than the current, since the council meeting held on September 08, 2008 resolved, before forwarding a proposal in this regard to the State Government.

The Council meeting presided over by the then Mayor Ayub Khan decided to press the government for a hike in monthly honourarium for Mayor, Deputy Mayor and councillors.

Accordingly, it was proposed that honourarium for Mayor should be increased to Rs 10,000, Deputy Mayor should get Rs 8,000 and councillors should be given Rs 5,000. Sources told Deccan Herald, the proposal awaits the nod as the authorities are unwilling to consider the demand of only one City Corporation. If there was any change in pay, it would be uniform for all the eight city corporations, say the authorities.

Now, the Mayor gets Rs 4,000 as honourarium, and his deputy gets Rs 2,500. The councillors are entitled for Rs 1,500, besides vehicle allowance of Rs 300 for each.

This apart, they get Rs 100 extra for attending every council meeting. They will get an additional Rs 100 if they are a member of Standing Committee, but there is a restriction.  The members of such committee will get the benefit only for five meetings.

If he or she is the chairman/ chairperson, they will not get vehicle allowance. Previously from 1993 to 1999, Mayor was receiving Rs 2,000, Deputy Mayor - Rs 1,200, Councillors - Rs 650 (including an allowance of Rs 250) and Rs 60 per meeting. Likewise, honourarium for councillors has undergone revision as and when it was deemed necessary since 1977, when the Town Municipality came into existence.
