Vettel accident cost us dear: Force India

Last Updated 02 September 2010, 13:26 IST

The Vijay Mallaya owned F1 team pocketed 11 points with Adrian Sutil grabbing 10 of them and Liuzzi ending his point drought after four races. "It's a shame, because without the accident with Sebastian Vettel, we could have finished eighth. When he ran over my front wing, it cost me a lot. Without the problem with Vettel we could easily have finished higher up," Liuzzi said.

Liuzzi had actually finished 11th but a post-race drivethrough penalty handed to Toro Rosso's Jaime Alguersuari for cutting a chicane at the end of lap 42, pushed the Italian to points bracket. Spa was the first point scoring race for Liuzzi after the Canadian Grand Prix in June when Liuzzi had finished ninth to score two points.
The Force India driver, however, is satisfied with the fact that he finished 10th.

"It was nice. I really like this kind of race with a lot of confusion and a change of weather, because it's more challenging, and you have to always make the right decision at the right time. This is what can happen in a crazy race, but I enjoyed it a lot," he said. After losing out to Nico Rosberg at the start due to an unimpressive takeoff, Liuzzi, who is quite strong in damp conditions, quickly gained places.

The start was also far from impressive for Liuzzi but the real blow came in lap 25 when Red Bull's Vettel struck him from the side. "We suffered a lot with understeer and snap oversteer after that, because the aero balance was affected," Liuzzi said about his take-off.

Asked about his early stop for new slick tyres, Liuzzi said, "It was because of rear graining on the soft tyres. When I came in the team didn't change the nose because they didn’t realise how bad the damage was, so I changed it only the second time, after the accident with Sebastian."
