Wife of killed Bihar cop inconsolable

Last Updated 02 September 2010, 15:12 IST

More or less similar was the condition of Yadav's old mother, his mother-in-law and sister-in-law. His three minor children were in a state of shock and speechless. Maoists killed Yadav, one of the four Bihar policemen they abducted four days ago, following a decision by a 'jan adalat' or kangaroo court.

The Leftwing rebels killed Yadav six hours after their second deadline - at 10 a.m. -expired.  "Rajni fainted time and again after she was told that her husband was killed. Her condition deteriorated and doctors were called for treatment," a relative said.

Soon after reports about Yadav's killing came in, officials of the Bihar government forcibly sent Rajni and other family members to Begusarai, their home district. The officials did not inform them about the incident.

An official said they were told that Yadav was safe and would be released soon. Yadav's family friend told IANS on phone that Rajni along with other family members were shocked Thursday afternoon when police forcibly evicted them from near the chief minister's official residence where they were staging a sit-in to demand the release of Yadav.

"She and others were brought to the Patna Medical College and Hospital under the impression of ill health," he said. According to him, Rajni was camping in Patna for the last three days. She was allowed on Tuesday to meet Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Later, when she tried to meet him, she was told by officials that it was not possible as he was busy.

After killing Yadav, the Maoists said the fate of the remaining three policemen would be decided by 10 a.m. Friday if the state government failed to initiate a dialogue or negotiate with them.
