Doreswamy rues political degeneration

Speaking at the sixth Bangalore City Urban District Literary Meet here on Sunday, he attributed lack of faith among the public in the political system to the corrupt politicians.

Former judge V S Malimath, who also echoed similar opinion, said none of the sectors including judiciary, have remained pure. He said: “ While judicial system has failed to provide justice, police themselves are in need of better protection in the country. In such a situation, the writers need to focus on nation-building instead of writing to earn livelihood.”
Retired IAS officer Chiranjeevi Singh, editor of Prajavani K N Shanthkumar, journalist K Satyanarayan, psychiatrist Dr C R Chandrashekhar, musician Dr R K Srikantan were among many others felicitated on the occasion.

Resolutions

The Sammelana adopted three resolutions including the one calling upon shops and commercial establishments to display boards in Kannada boldly. It was observed that the rule in this regard has not been implemented.

It was also urged that either the state government or the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike should allot the site for construction of a building to house Bangalore Urban Kannada Sahitya Parishat. The Palike was urged to provide a suitable location for installing a bronze statue of Rashtrakavi Kuvempu in the City.

The Bangalore Urban District Kannada Parishat announcing its plans to celebrate 15th anniversary next year, said a 9.5-foot statue of Kuvempu will be installed.
