Baton to pass via Udupi today

The Relay will be accorded ceremonial welcome at Kinnimulki on its way to Karwar via Udupi from Mangalore.

Speaking to media persons, DC Hemalatha said as Udupi district is not part of officially recognised districts where Queen’s Baton Relay is proposed to make its stay, the Relay will enter Udupi city through Kinnimulki en route to Karwar. The Relay will be greeted traditionally during its 15-20 minutes stay in Udupi. As many as 27 vehicles will accompany the Relay team.

She said Relay will be greeted with ‘Poornakumbha Swaghatha.’ Procession comprising about 5,000 school students, NCC cadets, Scouts and Guides will be part of celebrations. Traditional art forms of the district Yakshagana, Dollukunita, Veeragase and Huleevesha will be displayed at Big Bazaar and Board High School junctions on the occasion, she added.

The internationally acclaimed sports personalities of the district Babu Shetty, Udaykumar Shetty, Apsara Rohith Kumar Kateel, Padhbhanabha Bandi and Arunkala will take part in the celebrations.

Security

Briefing on the proposed high security arrangements to Sri Krishna temple, Hemalatha said private security agency will be recruited to provide security along with district police.

Already set up gates will be widened and arrangements will be made for the passing of new fire service vehicles at the barricades, she said.Arrangements will be made for additional buggies in Car Street once the registration and insurance of the vehicles are completed. Advertisement board comprising details of buggies will be put up at four intersecting joints of Car Street, she said.Additional DC Prabhakar was present.
