Bench takes cognisance of mysterious leaflet

Justice K Sreedhar Rao who passed the copy of the leaflet to Public Prosecutor, asked if he had any knowledge about it. On being answered in the negative, the Bench asked them to give in writing on Thursday whether they would like the same Judges to continue hearing the matter.

The leaflet was being circulated surreptitiously within the premises of the High Court catching advocates off guard, commenting on the appeal filed by Shubha.

She is presently challenging a lower court order which convicted her and three others of killing her fiancee, Girish. The matter is being heard by Justices K Sreedhar Rao and B V Pinto. The contents of the leaflet raised questions over Shubha’s case being given preference for hearings, when there were criminal appeals pending as far back as 2004.

The leaflet claimed that many early hearing applications were rejected by the Division Bench on the ground that matters would be heard on seniority basis and questioned how this case become the senior most of all.

The contents of the leaflet also levelled allegations on the defence counsel and one of the judges hearing the case.
