CWC member accused of molestation

Last Updated 09 September 2010, 19:08 IST

The allegations were investigated by the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR) after members of Association for Promotion of Social Action (APSA) lodged a complaint stating that some of the girls who had been to CWC sittings had complained that they were taken into a separate room by the Committee member and molested.

KSCPCR Chairperson Nina Nayak said they had interviewed the girls and based on prima facie evidence, have passed an order to the Department of Woman and Child Development (DWCD) to file an FIR against the member and submit an action taken report in ten days’ time. Another member of the KSCPCR said the evidence from the girls pointed that the molestation could have been occurring as early as February of this year. Though sources said the CWC member has been suspended, the officials didn’t confirm it.  The CWCs themselves in the state are defunct as the terms ended in February. The DWCD which invited applications for the post of CWC members with much fanfare has not bothered to appoint members to the post.
