Clash of the titans

Karan JoharOn a social networking website, producer JD Majethia has accused Karan Johar of plagiarising his idea. Apparently, Karan’s idea of inviting television artists to watch We Are Family last week was originally JD's idea for his upcoming comedy movie Khichdi, JD Majethia said.

According to him, Karan has made the Parekh family from Khichdi cry without making them watch We Are Family as he took away his precious idea. Majethia had full plans of inviting all the television artists to specially come and watch Khichdi, the movie which itself is a part of the television industry and is now making its move on to the big screen.

His social networking website’s page reads, “The idea was to make our premiere a big event as TV industry apni beti Khichdi ki shaadi movie family main karke bida kar rahe hain (TV industry is bidding adieu to its daughter Khichdi by marrying her to the silver screen).”

JD states that even though Karan’s movie made women weep while watching the film, he too intends to make everyone cry with Khichdi, the movie. The interesting difference being that it will be tears of laughter. Khichdi will make everyone giggle so hard that the tears of laughter are bound to join the laugh riot, he said.

For personal reasons

Mohanlal Mohanlal has said yes to Priyadarshan’s flick purely for personal reasons. However, the superstar does not want to act in Hindi films otherwise. Mohanlal may have refused Vishal Bhadwaj’s offer to be one of Priyanka Chopra’s husbands in Saat Khoon Maaf, but he could not say no to Priyadarshan. The South demigod is a part of Priyan’s thriller Knockout that stars Anil Kapoor, Ajay Devgan, Kangana Ranaut, Sameera Reddy and Kunal Kapoor.

Mohanlal figures among India’s top paid stars alongside Rajnikant. Buzz was that to oblige Priyadarshan, the superstar will be seen doing a cameo in the movie and his role will be crucial to the pace of the thriller. In Bollywood, Mohanlal was seen earlier seen in Ram Gopal Varma’s films Company and Aag.

Back to flats

She had been flaunting the best of designer labels and high-heeled fashionable shoes for three days at the Van Heusen Men’s India Week (VHIMW), but now actress and anchor Mandira Bedi is glad to be back to flats.

“After three days of very high heels... flat shoes are like... heaven! Three days of men’s fashion and now, back to life... back to reality (sic),” Mandira posted on her Twitter page.
Mandira was roped in to share updates from the event through Twitter.

Something to do...

It’s a known fact that the Bollywood bug has bitten most of the American desis.

Even in the past, we have seen films of Karan Johar and Yash Chopra do really well overseas though they may not have found many takers back home in India.

But now, Americans NRIs are ready for a new challenge — namely films, having
grown up on a steady diet of Bollywood films.

Paul Singh is a computer system administrator and was among the many Americans of Indian origin, who showed up for the audition of 9 Eleven, a Hindi film to be shot in Washington.

“Indian immigrants are financially well-off,” Singh told the media and added, “They are now looking for things to give them more fulfillment.”

9 Eleven is being produced by Narain Kumar Mathur, a Maryland-based realtor
and directed by Manan Katobora, a Maryland-based engineer, who has two Hindi films to his credit — Arya and When Kiran Met Karan.

Tickling the funny bone

Manoj BajpaiDus Tola, a comedy directed by debutant director Ajoy is all set to release on October 22. The film stars Manoj Bajpai, Aarti Chhabria, Siddharth Makkar, Govind Namdeo, Asrani, Ninad Kamath, Bharti Achrekar and introduces Pallavi Sharda. Warner Bros Pictures will release the film in India.

Inspired by the folk tales which are passed on from one generation to the other, Dus Tola is a simple story of the victory of goodness over greed.

The story is set in Sonapur, a quaint little town, that has its share of eccentricities. Shankar (Manoj Bajpai), the local goldsmith is head-over-heels in love with his neighbour’s daughter Suvarnalata (Aarti Chhabria) much to the chagrin of her father Daya Shastri (Dilip Prabahvalkar).

Shastri is bent upon finding a suitable groom from Dubai for his daughter and deck her with gold at the wedding which will help him climb up the social ladder. Shankar sets out to overcome the obstacles of devious plots and heartaches.

A slice-of-life tale which mirrors our society, Dus Tola is light-hearted in its narrative. “I’m glad my first film Dus Tola is set in a charming little town and I think I have been able to depict that quirkiness on screen,” adds director Ajoy.
