Devotees in large numbers offered special prayers at Idgah Juma Masjid at Light House Hill in the City. Dakshina Kannada District Khazi Twaqa Ahmed Moulavi led the religious rituals and offered dua at the Idgah Masjid. City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh visited the Masjid and conveyed his message to community members.

While Eid prayers and Qutba was performed under the leadership of Twaqa Ahmed Musliyar at around 8 am, members of Zeenath Baksh Masjid Committee supervised the arrangements. “Ramzan is a month of purity for all of us. We should continue to live a simple life even after the holy month,” Qazi called upon the community members.

It is a tradition that all community members should distribute ‘Fithr Zakath’ (alms) to the poor on the day of Eid-ul-Fithr.

Accordingly, many families distributed alms before going to the Masjid. Special dua and namaz was offered in all masjids in the City including Masjid Taqwa at Pumpwell, Kankanadi Masjid, Jodupalli Masjid and Kudroli Masjid. Since it was a Friday, Muslim community members had to offer ‘Juma’ (special prayer) afternoon again after the Eid-ul-Fithr namaz and prayer.

Muslim community members, who observed fasting for the past one month, celebrated the Eid-ul-Fithr in Udupi traditionally with pomp.

Special prayers were offered in all masjids in the town as part of the festival. Community members clad in white dress went to masjids to perform namaz and to offer special prayers. Later, they hugged each other and wished ‘Eid Mubarak’.

Special prayers were offered at Jamia Masjid near Corporation Bank, Anjuman Masjid near City Bus Stand, Nayarkere Masjid in Brahmagiri, Manipal Masjid, Indrali Masjid, Malpe Mareena Masjid and other prayer centres in and around Udupi. Religious leaders delivered Eid-ul-Fithr messages as part of the prayers in all masjids.
