Sugar factories told to pay Rs 63-cr arrears

Addressing the media in Bangalore on Monday he said owners of sugar factories were already served with notices. Stringent action will be initiated against those who fail to make payments, he said.

In 2009-10, Rs 4,607 crore of Rs 4,671 crore arrears had been paid to sugarcane growers. And directions were issued to pay the remaining arrears amount.

In 2010-11, owners of sugar factories  have been directed to pay within 15 days after sugarcane is supplied to factories.

Confiscate stocks

Stocks of factories, that fail to make the payment will be confiscated, he warned.
The following factories are yet to clear the dues - Naranja factory (Bidar) - Rs 12.04 crore, sugar factory of farmers (Mudhol) - Rs 2.98 crore, Badami Sugar Factory - Rs 7 crore; Bhavani Sugars (Bidar) - Rs 2 crore; Beelagi Sugars- (Bagalkot) Rs 50 lakh; Jnanayogi Sugars (Bijapur) Rs 5.49 crore, Indian Cane Power Limited - Rs 9 crore and SLL Sugars (Mandya) - Rs 7.08 crore.

The minister said in the current year 390 lakh tonnes of sugarcane is expected, while 30 lakh tonnes of sugar production is expected from 56 factories.

As many as 4.58 lakh ha have been brought under sugar cultivation, he added.
