'Second Upa Lokayukta is welcome, but will stay out of mining scam probe

Govt appointed many cops, will give more officials soon

However, putting it  straight, Justice Hegde said that he would not entertain any sort of interference of the second Upa Lokayukta in the inquiry being conducted by the Lokayukta, into illegal mining scam of Bellary.

Speaking to reporters after attending an interaction programme here on Monday, Justice Hegde said that Government is free to appoint another Upa Lokayukta. The newly appointed deputy is free to look into other cases but not the illegal mining scam. My team of officials have already gone ahead to unearth the scam. Hence, we do not want the second Upa Lokayukta to be a part of the investigation,” he added.

More officials

Justice Hegde said that he had requested Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa for the appointment more police officials to the Lokayukta.  “The government has already appointed many cops and has agreed to appoint more officials in the days to come,” he added.

“We also had asked the police department to send cops on deputation for the inquiry into illegal mining scam in Bellary. Director General of Police Ajay Kumar Singh has already agreed to send cops as per our demand,” he said.

The government also has agreed to appoint more supportive staff for the Lokayukta office, Justice Hegde added.
