Karnataka government to hire 2910 teachers

The recruitment which would based on merit-cum-reservation will be completed in two months, he told reporters here. "Direct Recruitment will be transparent without oral interview or award of marks. Merit is the criteria and reservation rules have to be followed strictly",he said in the backdrop of a major recruitment scam in two medical colleges that rocked the BJP government and led to the resignation of Ramachandra Gowda as Minister for Medical Education.

The state has 512 Residential Schools and majority of them faced staff shortage, he said. About 278 hostels have no building of their own and efforts are on to construct buildings for them, he said.

Under Own-Your-Land scheme, government planned to purchase at least 1,000 acres in every district for distribution among landless families hailing from SC and ST sections, he said. The selected family will get two acres in dry zone and one acre in irrigated zone.

"We have funds pooled from various schemes to the tune of Rs 600 crore. The government is ready to give Rs 100 crore for Own Your Land scheme", he said. Karjol said under the Ganga Kalyan Irrigation scheme, it is proposed to sink 10,000 borewells this year.

The government has directed its residential schools and 3600 hostels in the state admit orphan children and ensure education to them upto Pre-University level.
