Publicity for Dasara-2010 across country planned

600 hoardings all over the state; display at major railway stations

This was disclosed by Urban Development, Law and Parliamentary Affairs and District-In-Charge Minister S Sureshkumar, at a meeting here on Wednesday. The designs for posters and hoardings would be decided on September 18. The commissioners of Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike have been requested to put up Dasara advertisement hoardings all over Bengaluru City.

The committee concerned is in constant touch with reputed artists such as Adil Hussain, Pandit Jasraj and Ustad Amjad Alikhan to invite them for the main programme to be held in the premises of Amba Vilas Palace.

Instead of restricting Quawali to Udaygiri extension, plans are afoot to organise Sufi singing and shayaris at important venues. Unlike previous years, this time, the artists would be selected by a team of experts comprising of noted danseuse Vasundara Doreswamy, Krupa Phadke, Janardhan (Jennie) and Dr Hanumanna Nayaka Dore, vice-chancellor of Music Varsity. Hitherto, the artists were being selected by officials.

Sureshkumar said the prestigious ‘Sangeeta Vidwan’ award will be presented on October 8-the day of inauguration of ten-day Dasara festival. Dr Veerendra Heggade, dharmadhikari of Sree Kshethra Dharmasthala would be requested to attend the evening programmes too. Efforts are on to convince Minister Revu Nayak Belagami, a wrestler, to inaugurate the Dasara wrestling tournament. The state and national level women wrestling tournament will be held from October 8 to 14. The Dasara website will be launched on September 18. The government will initiate strict action against heads of departments if they failed to keep the stalls ready before October 8.

A few persons suggested to invite chief ministers of neighbouring States to promote cordial relation.

Those who attended the meeting include Mysore Lac and Paints Chairman Ravishankar, MLC Vijayshankar, secretary, Department of Kannada and Culture, B R Jayaramaraje Urs, Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta, Police Commissioner Sunil Agarwal, Mayor Sandesh Swamy, ZP CEO G Satyavathi, District Superintendent of Police Ramasubba.
