57th National Awards: 3 Idiots adjudged the best popular film

The movie also won veteran music director Illayaraja the best background music score. Farooq Sheikh was adjudged the best supporting actor for his role in the Hindi film, “Lahore”.

Aamir Khan-starrer “3 Idiots” won the best popular film award and “Delhi 6” bagged the Nargis Dutt award for the best film on national integration. The song “Behti Hawa Sa Tha Woh” in “3 Idiots” fetched the best lyrics award for Swanand Kirkire. Jeeva and Anba Karasu were adjudged best child artistes for “Passanga” (Tamil).

Rupam Islam won the best male playback singer award for the Bengali film,
“Mahanagar@Kolkata” and Neelanjana Sarkar won the best female playback singer award for “Houseful” (Bengali);

A special jury award went to A Sreekar Prasad for his editing work in “Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja”, “Kaminey” (Hindi) and “Kutty Shrank”.

In the non-feature film section, the best film award was shared by “The Postman” by B Manohar and “Bilal” by Sourav Sarangi. The jury headed by Mike Pandey did not find anyone suitable enough to be given the best director award in this section.
