Exchange of defence land in Karnataka approved by Centre

Last Updated 16 September 2010, 10:37 IST

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Union Cabinet here. Terming the exchange of land as "beneficial" to the defence forces, an official spokesperson said the 3,267 sq ft defence land inside the fort is being exchanged with 5,400 sq ft non-agricultural land offered by the Ramakrishna Mission Ashram as it is sandwiched between civil pockets and cannot be effectively used for Army purposes.

"The land offered by the Ashram is contiguous to defence land and non-agricultural, which can be gainfully used by the Army. Thus the exchange is beneficial to the Government," the spokesperson added. Army's Commando Training School and the Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre are also based in the city.
