Alcoholic and womaniser, he used to abuse his wife everyday

 
The victim, Anand Murthy (30) was a realtor and financier. He was said to be an alcoholic and a womaniser. Anand had fallen in love with Sheela and married her 14 years ago. Father of a grown-up boy and a young daughter, Anand used to come home drunk and physically abuse Sheela everyday.

On Wednesday too Murthy came home in an inebriated condition and picked up a fight. When Sheela did not heed his words, he went to the kitchen and picked up a pound and attacked her. She tried to defend herself and overpowered him. In the melee, Sheela snatched the pound and hit him on his head. Before she could realise what was happening, Anand was lying in a pool of blood. She then rushed to the police station and surrendered.

However, almost all the neighbours stood by Sheela. Some told Deccan Herald that Anand used to beat her up everyday. “He tortured her and made her life miserable. She hardly slept as their fights used to go on till morning. Many a time, we have tried to stop and save her but he used to pounce on us,” said one of them.

Police said Anand had three wives and had a child too from his second wife, who lives near Nataraj Theatre. Sheela was Anand’s first wife.

Sheela’s son was with her parents in Rajajinagar while her daughter was fast asleep at home at the time of the crime.
