Mira Nair's film kickstarts short film fest on development

Bollywood actor Kunal Kapoor inaugurated the two-day-long festival, which will screen movies of renowned filmmakers like Mira Nair, Gael Garcia Bernal, Jan Kounen, Gasper Noe and Jane Campion.

Over 120 short films from over 15 countries on themes related to Millennium Development Goals were received. A panel of expert jury including Anurag Kashyap, Mike Pandey, Bhawana Somaaya, Vagish Jha, Namrata Joshi, Kuhu Tanveer shortlisted 33 entries.

"We need to see progress on other millennium development goals such as tackling under nutrition, reducing maternal mortality, improving girls education. We know this can and must change. Let us all join efforts to ensure India delivers," said Kapoor, who is the ambassador for 'Save the Children' campaign.

Nair's film, which highlighted the issue of gender inequality, also formed the base for a panel discussion moderated by Aruna Vasudevan and attended by Dilip Cherian and Nafisa Ali.
