EWS houses: HC dismisses plea

Last Updated 21 September 2010, 19:09 IST

The court directed the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike to commence the construction at the earliest. Mumbai-based Akruthi City Limited had challenged the award of tender to MHI for construction of 1,640 EWS flats and commercial buildings on a 15-acre plot at Ejipura.

The court had stayed the operation of the government order dated September 26, 2008 which had awarded the tender. The petitioners had contended that tender was cancelled in 2006 and had now been awarded after tampering with records. However, the court has imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the petitioner for levelling unsubstantiated allegations.

Justice Rammohan Reddy, while dismissing the petition, observed that it had been five years since the shelters were demolished rendering 1,650 people homeless. The court has also observed that it was not competent to look at the technical aspects of the project.
A miscellaneous petition filed by the petitioner seeking to defer the hearing was also dismissed as the Court found no merit.
