Unlike the day one when many students whose counselling was not scheduled had turned up causing confusion, the seat selection process on Tuesday remained largely free from any hassles.

On its part, the University had made better arrangements by restricting the entry of students. For this, more policemen had been deployed at the place.
Candidates ranking 1 to 75 were to select their seats for various courses under 16 arts departments (including languages).

Though, counselling began on time at 9 am the process of giving on-the-spot admission started at 10 am at the Jnana Jyothi Auditorium.

Documents verification

“This was due to selection of seats, receipt of application forms, and verification of documents had to be finished first,” a Bangalore University official said. A large number of candidates opted for Economics followed by Political Science, Kannada, and History whereas there were few takers for Telugu, Sanskrit, and Urdu languages. All the three languages had fewer students than the available seats, another senior official said.

The post graduate course in Philosophy, which was restarted after several years, generated moderate response and so did Sociology.  In contrast, many candidates made a beeline for Visual Arts and most of its seats were full at the end of the counselling. On Monday, 184 students had secured admission under the supernumerary quota.

The seat selection process for various Arts courses will continue for two more days. Notwithstanding the smooth conduct of Tuesday’s counselling, the university officials will have to brace for a tough time as more students will appear for counselling in the next two days.

On Wednesday, students ranked from 76 to 200 will participate in the counselling from 9 am to 1:30 pm. In the afternoon from 2:30 to 5:30 pm, students ranked from 201 to 750 will have to appear for counselling.

On Thursday, students ranked from 751 to 1,500 will undergo counselling in the morning while those ranked above 1501 can opt for seats in the afternoon.

Re-scheduled

Counselling for Commerce courses has been re-scheduled. Instead of September 24 and 25 as scheduled earlier, it will be now held on October 5 and 6. There will no changes in the counselling for science, education, and law courses.
