GM to give discount on its cars soon

Last Updated 23 September 2010, 09:04 IST

"We have not hiked the prices, and we have decided to give discounts from Rs 12,000 to Rs 70,000 on different models of our cars soon," P Balendran, vice president (corporate affairs) said at the company's manufacturing plant Halol, about 40 kms from Vadodara.

Talking to PTI after inauguration of LNG facility at its Halol plant, Balendran said, "despite the fact that most auto majors have hiked prices passing on the cost impact to the consumers owing to high commodity prices, General Motors has refrained from doing so."

The festive offer has been made in view of the ensuing Navratri and Diwali festivals, he said. The company has set itself a target of selling one lakh units this financial year in India as against 69,000 units last year.

"The company has also ramped up production by adding second shift at both of its plants to meet the increasing demand," Balendran said adding that the launch of Tata's Nano car has not affected the company.

Balendran said interest rates announced by RBI will not hurt auto sales and General Motors has reported healthy sales numbers. He felt that increasing interest rates can hurt auto sales from the second half of the fiscal year.
