S'patna: Residents see red in ASI order

They blocked Mysore - Bangalore highway for more than one hour urging withdrawal of the new rule.

‘Dilute norms’
They wanted the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) to dilute the new norms.
The resident of Srirangapatna and Ganjam sat on a dharna on the highway and raised slogans against the ASI.

Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on the highway as the protesters wanted the ASI to withdraw the rule.

The traders also observed a day-long bandh bringing the commercial activity to a halt. The protesters took a rally from the highway to the taluk office. If the schools and colleges announced a holiday, the banks had downed shutters.

The advocates stayed away from court proceedings. The Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha, traders’ association, dalita sangharsha samithi and other forums had extended the support to the bandh call given by the Srirangapatana - Ganajam Horata Samithi.
MLA Ramesh Bandisiddegowda, samiti president K Balaram, Congress leaders Ravindra Srikantaiah, M Santhosh, Ganjam Narasimhaswamy and others led the protest.
