'Smart cards for rural people'

Addressing the general body meeting of VRDF on Friday, he said that the bank has formed several ‘Gramabhivridhi samitis’ in rural areas to respond to the needs of the people. “The bank intends to expand its functioning in more remote areas by setting up samitis. Under the economic inclusion plan, Vijaya Bank had 3,19,394 ‘Vijaya Sarala’ accounts as on July, 2010 with deposit of Rs 3.89 crore. ‘Vijaya Vikas smart cards’ scheme has been started with the aim of reaching out to rural people,” he said.

VRDF Vice-President Premnath Alva said that people have started losing faith on government schemes because it often does not reach the genuine beneficiaries but in case of Vijaya Bank, the programmes have been taken to the last common man successfully, due to, which people have faith on the bank and its schemes.

Foundation Secretary Rajendra Rai presented the 2009-10 report of the Foundation. Regional Manager N Harinath Shetty VRDF CEO C K Patha Sarathi among others were present.
