Sympathy won't last, Jagan will: Vijayamma

Few minutes after the YSR Congress Legislature Party unanimously elected her as their leader in the Andhra Pradesh State Assembly, Y S Vijayalakshmi, honorary president of YSRCP, spoke with Deccan Herald at her Lotus Pond residence. Excerpts:
Your son Jagan is termed most corrupt; yet  he fared well in the by-election. 

Yes, my son is targeted by Congress high command because he refused to drop the Odarpu Yatra. But my husband Rajsekhara Reddy has touched every heart in the state through his programmes. People now see YSR in Jagan, who is growing individually too. Sympathy won’t last, but Jagan will.
You have been criticised for not denying the charges made against your husband and son?

Never had the time during campaign. But I tried to tell the voters my husband followed the industrial policy and did not give away lands or sops to any industries for free. In return. they invested in the state. Jagan is nowhere concerned. Jagan’s assets are on the Net for anyone to see. He is the only entrepreneur to be punished for paying Advance Tax.
Jagan may have to stay in jail longer. Can you manage? 

There is God and there is law. His arrest was premeditated but people are intelligent and they understood who is behind the CBI and its selective vengeance towards my son.
Will you meet Prime Minister to seek Jagan’s release?

I have been writing to the prime minister seeking his indulgence in restraining CBI. I will visit Delhi  and explain the harassment meted out to YSR’s family.

Will your party support UPA’s presidential candidate?

About six months back Jagan had spoken about a truck with NDA. Now, the party will decide under Jagan’s guidance.

Congress is alleging that your are trying to destabilise the government in AP. How many more YSR loyal MLAs will crossover?

If we had any such plan, the government would have crumbled the day  150 MLAs signed the memorandum in favour of Jagan. The present government is in place because of my husband and we do not want to drag it down.
