'Intensify patrolling in Tannirbavi, Thota Bengre'

DCP (Crime and Traffic) Uma Prasanth and SP (Civil Rights Enforcement) C B Vedamurthy at the SC/ST grievance redressal meeting held at Police Commissioner’s office in Mangaluru on Sunday.

The need to intensify patrolling and other security measures in Thota Bengre and in the vicinity of Tannirbavi beach in Mangaluru, was demanded during the SC/ST grievance redressal meeting held at Police Commissioner’s office on Sunday.

The meeting was conducted by Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate.

Speaking during the meet, leader Sadashiv said the recent gang rape of a woman belonging to SC/ST community, shows lack of adequate security and vigil in the area.

“The untoward incident took place in the broad daylight,” he pointed out and urged to carry out additional patrolling in the region to ensure protection of tourists visiting the beach.

Sadashiv also alleged that the patrolling was not being carried out effectively by the Panambur police. As a result, Bengre and Tannirbavi areas have become haven for drug addicts.

“Also, there is a need to monitor the patrolling by higher authorities.”

DCP (Crime and Traffic) Uma Prashanth, however, said that the patrolling had been increased in Bengre and Tannirbavi areas. “Necessary measures will be initiated by monitoring the security measures from time to time.”

The leaders from SC/ST communities, meanwhile, requested to complete the probe on the matter soon, so that justice is ensured to the victim.

Umesh from Kaikamba alleged that the Bajpe police station was not admitting the atrocity cases of people belonging to SC/ST.

Complaining that the menace of drug abusers had intensified in SC/ST colonies in Ullal, Girish Kumar urged to conduct grievance meeting at Ullal police station.

Leader S T Ishwar too said that the menace of drug addicts had increased in Sooterpet as well. SP (Civil Rights Enforcement) C B Vedamurthy said that the probe on the alleged irregularities in Ganga Kalyana scheme was in progress. Victims may submit their complaints in this regard, he added.
