‘I want to be more confident’

Akshara Hoyal of NPSI Mysore tells DHiE that this year she wants to build confidence, stay realistic and celebrate small steps forward.
‘I want to be more confident’

This year, I decided to set some New Year’s resolutions (as usual). My main goal is to be more confident or at least to look confident while secretly freaking out inside. I know real change doesn’t happen overnight, but if I aim small enough, I might actually stick to something. Whether it’s trying a new hobby, eating healthier, or just remembering to update my diary without forgetting for three weeks, I want to make some positive moves.

Of course, I also realize I’m probably going to mess up at some point, maybe even spectacularly. That’s just part of the process. I’m trying to stay realistic because perfection is overrated and honestly, who has the time? The trick is to keep going even when I feel like hiding under the covers and pretending I’m a cloud. Resolutions are great for thinking about what I want to improve, even if I forget about them by February and replace them with more immediate concerns like asking my mom what’s for dinner.

Most importantly, I want to enjoy the journey and celebrate small wins like not burning dinner, getting out of pyjamas before noon, or actually studying every day. Here’s to a new year full of mistakes, surprises, and hopefully a little progress. If I can keep that mindset, maybe this year won’t be so bad. Or at least I’ll have a good story to tell when I mess up.
