A female Sangai deer, aged between two and three years, died at the Delhi zoo on Saturday morning due to injuries, with officials calling the incident "unusual and accidental."Zoo Director Sanjeet Kumar confirmed the accidental nature of the death. A nilgai (blue bull) was also injured, despite measures such as separating dominant males.Sources linked the death to mismanagement, citing increased tension and aggression among animals during the estrus period. They also noted that the deer had not been segregated. This marks another unfortunate event for the zoo, following the death of Dharmendra, a one-horned rhinoceros from Assam, under "mysterious circumstances" on January 2. Additionally, a nine-month-old white tiger cub died on December 28 from "traumatic shock and acute pneumonia."The Delhi zoo is home to over 90 species and houses more than 1,000 birds and animals, including leopards, lions, wolves, Asiatic elephants, and chinkaras.
