Every year on July 4, the United States celebrates Independence Day with fireworks, parades, and patriotic songs. It marks the day in 1776 when 13 American colonies declared freedom from British rule by signing the Declaration of Independence. It was the start of a new nation built on the idea that people should have a say in how they are governed.

While it’s an American holiday, it also connects to India in surprising ways. For one, the US is now home to over 4 million people of Indian origin — one of the largest Indian communities outside India. From Silicon Valley to New York, Indians have made their mark in business, science, and technology.

In fact, some of the biggest American companies are led by Indian-born CEOs, like Sundar Pichai of Google and Satya Nadella of Microsoft. Indian students also make up a huge number of international students in the US.

So when America celebrates its freedom, it’s not just about history — it’s also about shared dreams and global connections.
