India head coach Gautam Gambhir said the team is ready to push the barriers in T20 Internationals with a fresh “high-risk, high-reward” approach, aiming to regularly score 250-260 in the format. This aggressive mindset was evident in India’s 4-1 series win over England. In the fourth T20I at Pune, India continued attacking despite losing wickets, setting a match-winning 181/9. In Mumbai, the hosts raced to 247/9, their fourth-highest total in T20Is.“That’s the kind of T20 cricket we want to play. We don’t want to fear losing a game. We want to play high-risk, high-reward cricket, and these guys have adopted that ideology really well,” Gambhir said after the match. He emphasized that India is looking to post tall totals consistently, even if it means occasional failures. “We want to try and get to 250-260 regularly. And in trying to do that, there will be games where we’ll get bundled out for 120-130. That is what T20 cricket is all about. Unless you play that high-risk cricket, you won’t get big rewards. Most importantly, I think we’re on the right track. In big tournaments, we want to continue playing this way without fearing losses.”Gambhir credited the team's selfless and fearless approach over the past six months. He praised Abhishek Sharma’s breathtaking 54-ball 135, calling it one of the finest T20 centuries against high-speed bowlers. He also lauded spinner Varun Chakravarthy for his strong comeback to international cricket. “His transformation from IPL to international T20 cricket has been phenomenal. This series was a benchmark because England is a high-quality side. The way he bowled tough overs on fantastic batting wickets was impressive.” Chakravarthy finished as the series' highest wicket-taker with 14 scalps at an average of 9.85 and an economy rate of 7.66.Amid speculation of dressing room rifts after India’s struggles in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Gambhir dismissed concerns. “These players have played a lot of cricket against each other. When results start going our way, everything falls into place. Our players know what it means to represent 140-150 crore Indians,” he added.
