The Karnataka men’s hockey team outclassed Manipur 4-1 to retain the top spot in Pool A standings at the 38th National Games here on Saturday.Ganesh Majji (18th), Surya N M (31st), Bharath Mahalingappa Kurtakoti (54th), and Shamanth C (55th) scored a goal each for Karnataka, while Irengbam Rohit Singh (47th) was the lone goalscorer for the losing side.Karnataka have nine points, having won all three matches in the group stage. Manipur, on the other hand, are out of the race with just one point from three outings.In the women’s competition, Manipur and Madhya Pradesh recorded victories over their respective rivals.Kujur, Sudeshna winOdisha’s rising star Animesh Kujur clocked a Games record-equalling time of 10.28 seconds to win the men’s 100m gold medal in a top-class field on the opening day of athletics competitions at the National Games in Dehradun on Saturday.Out of the 10 gold medals on offer on the day, Maharashtra and Services picked up two each, while Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Tamil Nadu claimed one each.The 21-year-old Kujur, who has a personal best time of 10.27 seconds, equalled the Games record of 10.28 seconds set by Amlan Borgohain of Assam.Maharashtra’s Pranav Gurav was the surprised silver winner with a time of 10.32 seconds, while Borgohain was third with 10.43 seconds.Maharashtra’s Sudeshna Shivankar ran away with the women’s 100m gold, clocking 11.76 seconds, while Nithya Gandhe (11.79 secs) of Telangana and Giridharani Ravikumar (11.88 secs) of Tamil Nadu were second and third respectively.
