King Charles III met India’s men’s and women’s cricket teams at Clarence House here on Thursday in a reception that combined royal courtesy with a shared love of the game.
The 76‑year‑old British Monarch spent considerable time discussing cricket with India’s players, meeting them at what team skipper Shubman Gill termed an “amazing” audience.
Indian High Commissioner to the UK Vikram Doraiswami and Deputy High Commissioner Sujit Ghosh, along with Rajya Sabha MP and BCCI vice‑president Rajiv Shukla and BCCI secretary Deepak Sahiba, were also present.
“It was amazing. I think the King Charles is very kind and generous… he was someone I really enjoyed conversing with,” said Gill after the reception.
On Monday, India’s teams depart for the ongoing series in England, buoyed by royal encouragement and looking to make their mark on English soil.
