Indian-American golfer Megha Ganne created history by winning the 2025 US Women’s Amateur title at Bandon Dunes, beating Brooke Biermann 4 and 3 in the 36-hole final.
Ganne, a rising senior in her seventh US Women’s Amateur, is the daughter of Sudha Ganne, an endocrinologist, and Hari Ganne, an IT entrepreneur—first-generation immigrants from India living in Holmdel, New Jersey, with daughters Megha and Sirina.
In 2021, as a teenager, Megha led after the first round of the US Women’s Open, was tied for third going into the final round, and finished tied 14th, drawing attention from the golfing world.
Alongside fellow Indian-Americans Akshay Bhatia and Sahith Theegala on the PGA Tour, Megha could be the next big name in golf. Other notable golfers of Indian origin include Indo-British PGA Tour winner Aaron Rai, Indo-Canadian Sudarshan Yellamaraju, and Indo-American Julian Suri, both winners on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2025.
On the day Megha won the US Women’s Amateur, Bhatia tied for sixth, Rai tied for 22nd at the St. Jude Championship in the PGA Tour’s FedExCup playoffs, and Yellamaraju finished fourth at the Pinnacle Bank Championship on the Korn Ferry Tour.
By winning the 125th edition of the world’s second-oldest women’s amateur competition, Megha earned an exemption into next year’s US Women’s Open at The Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California, and secured a place on the 2025 USA Women’s World Amateur Team for the event in Singapore.
