Gusty wind, heavy rain uproot trees, destroy houses in Udupi district

Heavy rain and gusty winds that lashed Udupi district on Sunday night, has paralysed normal life in many places. The district received an average of 34.33 mm rain in the last 24 hours.

Udupi taluk received 42.7 mm, Karkala received 33.5 mm rain while Kundapur taluk received 26.8 mm rain rainfall.

The rain accompanied by thunder and lightning, has resulted in the uprooting of the huge trees in several areas. In some places the electric poles have also been uprooted, thus disrupting the power supply.

Rain water has flooded houses in Shireebeedu area. Trees at Doddannagudde have been uprooted and damaged the roofs of the houses. Huge trees at Brahamagiri and Amabagilu were also uprooted and blocked the road.

Two houses at Kodankuru and Nittur are completely damaged after a tree fell on the roof. In Karkala, several houses were damaged following heavy rain and wind. A house in Kasaba village in Karkala belonging to Manjula was partially damaged.

Lightning

Another house belonging to Somavathi was damaged by lightning. In Sanoor village, the house belonging to Isamma Moidheen was damaged. The house belonging to Abdullah was partially damaged. The house belonging to Sundari Shettygar was damaged owing to the heavy rain in Sanoor.

In Udupi taluk, a house belonging to Srimathi Upadhayaya in 76-Badgabettu was partially damaged. A house belonging to Baby Panara in Perdur was damaged. In Udyavara, a house belonging to Baby Kunder in Padukere was completely damaged when the coconut tree fell on their house.
