Kaushal Vishu Kumar from Mysuru, a student of Miami International University of Art and Design, showcased his designs at the ‘A touch of summer fashion showcase’ and ‘Virginia Men’s Fashion Week’, held at Virginia, the United States of America (USA), recently.

The show, produced by American actor Tim Reid’s Legacy Media Institute and Salome Styles featured 12 designers.

“Kaushal (he goes by first name for his brand) may now be a student at Miami International University of Art & Design soaking up South Beach flavour, but he brought an Indian edge to western design silhouettes by using ethnic prints. His collection included a jumpsuit, a romper, tunics and hoodies, jodhpurs (riding pants) and shirred waist blouson pants. The mix was both bold and soft. His use of one print throughout readily identified unified his collection”, wrote Jamesetta Walker, features editor and columnist, in ‘The Virginian-Pilot’.

Even as a student, Kaushal is a fashion entrepreneur. He had organised a fashion show ‘Utsava’ in Mysuru, involving American brands and models, on December 16, 2017.

A BE graduate in Information Science and Engineering from the National Institute of Engineering (NIE) in
the city, he had studied fashion designing at Mysuru-based Queen School of Design. He joined the Miami University to do a post-graduate degree.

He has also founded Utsava, a fashion company. Designers Clavon Leonard from New York, Baccio from Miami and Catherine from New Jersey and international models Justin, Alex, Marina and Kenya were part of his first show in Mysuru.

Kaushal said, it has been a tough and challenging journey from India to the USA, but it has been a fruitful one.

“With commitment and dedication, anything is possible. Fashion has been my passion since childhood. But, I did not neglect formal education and completed my BE degree as per my parent’s wish. In fact, my background in technical education has helped me a lot in pursuing my passion,” he said.
