Never craved for power, says Deve Gowda

Janata Dal (Secular) H D Deve Gowda has charged that national parties BJP and Congress are not committed to protecting the interest of the farmers in the state.

Speaking at an election campaign on Saturday, he said, “A regional party, like JD(S), has not lagged behind in protecting the interest of the farmers in the state.”

“Leaders from Muslim, Dalit, and Yadava communities were the JD(S) presidents. In spite of it, many people accuse me of being a power-monger. In my 10-month tenure as a prime minister and one-and-a-half years tenure as chief minister, I have worked for the people and never craved for power,” he said.

He said, “Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has been stating voting for JD(S) will amount to voting for BJP. The chief minister who boasts of freeing Karnataka from hunger should inform the people where he was earlier. I have brought him up politically. Now, he (Siddaramaiah) has reached the level of teaching a lesson to me.”

He said, “From J H Patel to B S Yeddyurappa and D V Sadananda Gowda, no chief minister has removed my portrait from the chief minister’s office. But Siddaramaiah has got it removed.”

Gowda asked what the Congress-led state government has achieved in Karnataka.

He also warned of revealing each and every detail of the “percentage government” if its leaders stand in front of him.

Earlier JD(S) workers took out a bike rally from Kadur APMC to Birur.
