Newly elected MLAs to take oath today

The new legislators will take oath as MLAs on Saturday, before the crucial floor test, of B S Yeddyurappa government.

Legislative Assembly secretary S Murthy told reporters that his office had issued summons to all the 222 MLA elects through SMSes, WhatsApp and phone.

Pro tem Speaker K G Bopaiah will administer oath to all the elected representatives between 11 am and 4 pm. At 4 pm, the floor test will be held, wherein Yeddyurappa will move the motion of confidence. The motion will be put for voting by the pro tem Speaker.

Votes of the members, who will be made to stand up, will be recorded row-wise. Votes of those in favour of the motion, and those against it, will be counted and recorded separately, he said.

When asked if elected representative(s) can abstain from taking oath, he said, “Those who want to participate in the floor test, should take their oaths by 4 pm. It is not mandatory that the elected representatives take their oath tomorrow itself -- there is no time frame for it.”
