PU results: Hassan boy stands 2nd in Science

Hassan/Mandya/Chamarajanagar: Girls have outnumbered boys in the PU exams, in Mysuru region.

Hassan district registered 73.82% and jumped to the 8th place in the results, from the 16th place. The district had secured 69.88% last year.

H L Mohan Kumar, student of Masters PU College, has brought laurels to the district by bagging the second rank in the state (Science stream), scoring 595 marks. H S Bhargavi of the same college has scored 591 marks.

Mohan Kumar has secured centum in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology, 98 in English and 97 in Kannada. His parents Lakshmegowda and Lakshmi are farmers, who own 24 guntas of land at Shantigrama in the taluk.

Speaking to DH, Mohan said, “I was studying from 4 am to 6 am and 5 pm to 11 pm. I want to pursue medicine.”

Lakshmegowda said “Mohan used to top in all classes right from LKG. I will get him admitted to medical college, as per his wish. Along with studies, he was also helping us in our daily chores, including nurturing the cows and milking.”

Five colleges in Hassan district have scored 100% results. In all, 13,892 students had appeared for the exams and 10,107 have passed. In all, 10,775 urban students and 2,907 rural students had appeared for the exams. Out of them, 7,908 and 2,199 students have passed in urban and rural areas respectively.

Mandya

The overall pass percentage of Mandya district is 65.36%. It has dipped to the 19th place from the 17th slot. The number of students who appeared for the exam was 15,911, including 7,378 boys and 7,853 girls. Several government colleges in the district have scored 100% results.

Government PU College at Anegola in KR Pet taluk, Government PU College in Malavalli (Commerce and Arts stream); Government PU College in Saragur Handpost (Science) have got 100 percent results.

DDPU H C Krishna said that though the district has slipped in the list, the number of rural students passing the exam is more than the previous years. But we will see to it that the district ascends the list next year, he added.

Chamarajanagar

The results in the district have come as a surprise, as it has jumped to the 6th place from the 9th position. The overall pass percentage of the district was 65.34% last year. This year, it has secured 75.30%. Out of 5,838 students who appeared for the exam, 4,396 have passed.
