Rahul advises Modi to read Basavanna’s Vachanas

Buoyed by the public response for the Congress election campaign at Bantwal on Friday, he did not forget to use Basavanna’s Vachana (sayings) to counter Modi and said the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government has followed the path of Basavanna - ‘Nudidanthe Nade’ (practice what you preach).

All India Congress Committee president Rahul Gandhi advised Prime Minister Narendra Modi to read Vachanas of 12th-century saint-social reformer Basavanna and fulfil the promises made to the people.

He said Modi has forgotten to fulfil the promises he made during the election. “The Congress government has fulfilled more than 90% of the promises it made during the last election. The BJP has been protecting the interest of the looters. All those who looted the resources of the state and went to jail are once again united in Karnataka. The people of the state are watching it,” he said. “The prime minister speaks about his ‘Mann Ki Baat’. But for us, the words of Karnataka’s people are our ‘Mann Ki Baat’. We are not corrupt. We have fulfilled our promises. We will keep our promises in future too,” he said.

Stating that under the BJP rule at the Centre, the investigation agency CBI has become Central Bureau of Illegal Mining, he alleged, “(BJP president) Amit Shah’s son converts Rs 50,000 to Rs 80 crore in three months and the ‘chowkidar’ of the country doesn’t get it enquired and doesn’t even utter a word.”

“If I say from this stage that loans of the farmers will be waived and free education will be imparted to girl children in the state and that all the towns will have Indira Canteens, then the Congress government will fulfil it in the coming days. Each individual in a family will get 7 kg rice free of cost under public distribution system. Half of the amount which the Narendra Modi government spends for tribals and Dalits of the entire country, is spent by Congress-led government in Karnataka for the welfare of the Dalits and tribals,”  Rahul Gandhi claimed.

“The government does not twice to waive Rs 2.5 lakh crore loan of industrialists. But it refuses to waive the farmers’ loan. The BJP only knows communal hatred politics,” he charged. He called upon the Congress workers to keep BJP away from power and strive to achieve this motive. “Bring back Congress to power. This is essential for the development of the state,” he claimed.

Raising the issue of atrocities against women, he said, “Modi launched the campaign Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao” (Save girl child-Educate girl child). With the increase in atrocities against women, the campaign needs to be changed to “Beti Bachao BJP Nethaonse (Save girl child from BJP leaders)”.

Election Manifesto Committee chairman M Veerappa Moily, senior Congress leader B Janardhana Poojary, AICC general secretary K C Venugopal, Vishnunathan, B K Hariprasadand candidates B Ramanath Rai, U T Khader among others were present.
