In its second list, the BJP on Monday has announced former MLA Shankar Patil Munenakoppa as its candidate for Navalgund constituency, and Mahesh Tenginkai for Kalghatagi constituency.
Now, the BJP's announcement of candidates for Kundgol and Hubballi-Dharwad East constituencies in the district is awaited, as Jagadish Shettar, Aravind Bellad and Amrut Desai have already been given the ticket for Hubballi-Dharwad Central, Hubballi-Dharwad West, and Dharwad constituencies respectively.
The Congress has already announced its candidates for all the seven constituencies in the district.
In Kalghatagi
With the announcement of BJP ticket for Mahesh Tenginkai, senior leader C M Nimbannavar, who had aspired for the ticket, stated that he would contest in the elections as an independent candidate. His supporters staged a protest and burnt the banners and pamphlets of the BJP.
BJP taluk unit president Ningappa Sutagatti stated that BJP leaders in the taluk would resign to their positions in the party, and would support Mr Nimbannavar.
Mr Nimbannavar's supporters have also given a call for Kalghatagi bandh on Tuesday (April 17).
In Navalgund
After the Congress Party announced ticket for Vinod Asuti from Navalgund constituency, former minister K N Gaddi decided to resign from the party, as he missed the ticket.
He also stated that his next move would be based on the opinion of his supporters. Several leaders of the party are expected to resign to their positions, in support of Mr Gaddi.
Meanwhile, another aspirant of Congress ticket and Annigeri Block Congress Committee president Prakash Angadi stated that he would face the polls as a rebel candidate.
The party neglected the Lingayats who have 70,000 population in Navalgund constituency, by fielding Vinod Asuti of Kuruba community, he added.
