Review of SC order on SC/ST Act sought

Last Updated 17 April 2018, 17:26 IST

Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (Bhimavada) has demanded a review of the recent order by the Supreme Court which will allegedly dilute the provisions under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The Samiti has also sought to impose stern punishment on the culprits of atrocities against women.

Addressing reporters here on Tuesday, DSS district convener S P Anand said that the SC order may dilute the Act, further resulting in more atrocities against Dalits. The verdict will also impact a case on the cancellation of promotions for Dalit employees as more than 15,000 employees will be affected, Anand said.

Referring to the recent brutal atrocities against young women in Unnao and Kathua, Anand said that the culprits in both the incidents should be awarded stern punishment. He said that the Karnataka DSS will submit a memorandum to the President of India.

To press for the above-mentioned issues, a protest will be conducted in front of the DC’s office on May 23 at 11.30 am, he added.
