Vipul Kumar takes charge as M’luru Commissioner of Police

Vipul Kumar takes charge as the new Commissioner of Police from outgoing Commissioner T R Suresh on Wednesday night.

IGP (Southern Range) Vipul Kumar took charge as the Mangaluru Commissioner of Police from outgoing Commissioner of Police T R Suresh on Wednesday night.

An IPS officer of the 1999 batch, Vipul Kumar is a native of Bihar and is a post graduate (MTech) in Petroleum Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) at Dhanbad, Jharkhand.

Kumar started his career at ASP at Bailhongal and later served as CID SP and Chikkamagaluru SP. He also served as the Assistant Director of National Police Academy in 2008. During his Central government service, he took a two-year sabbatical to pursue his PhD studies in Australia.

After his return, he was posted as the Director of Karnataka Police Academy in Mysuru. He was posted as IGP (Southern Range) last year.

Speaking to reporters soon after taking charge, he said that maintaining peace, law and order during elections would be his priority.
