Work on private bus stand reaches the final stage

Construction work of the private bus stand at Race Course Road has reached the final stage and the movement of buses is expected to begin from the new bus stand soon.

The Police Department conducted a survey on the bus route, along with holding a discussion with the Regional Transport Department.

The buses are expected to start operating from the new bus stand by June end.

Earlier, the buses would start-off from the old bus stand, which is situated in the heart of the city.

The old system was causing a huge inconvenience to the people, especially, tourists.

The new bus stand has come up at a cost of Rs 5 crore. District In-charge minister M R Seetharam initiated the work before the Assembly elections.

City Municipal Council Commissioner B Shubha said that the work on toilets, stalls and protective wall are almost complete. Necessary measures will be taken to make the bus stand open to the public. Arrangements are done for the parking of 20 buses at a time.

Separate gates have been constructed for the entry and exit of the buses. Eight stalls are set up in the upper floor of the bus stand.

The route of the buses are planned under the guidance of the Superintendent of Police P Rajendra Prasad. Buses will reach the bus stand along the following route- General Thimmaiah Circle - Raja Seat - Race Course. After starting off from the bus stand, they will move towards Press Club - College Road - Kohinoor road.

CMC president Kaveramma Somanna said that a joint meeting of district administration, Police Department, transport authority, representatives of NGO and bus operators will be conducted before initiating the movement of buses from the new bus stand.
