Centre transfers CBSE chairman, secretary amid ongoing On-Screen Marking system row, inquiry panel set up

The Centre on Tuesday transferred the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) chairman and secretary amid the ongoing controversy over the board's digital evaluation system.

An inquiry committee has also been formed to look into the procurement of On-Screen Marking (OSM) services, that has come under wide scrutiny.

The committee will be chaired by S Radha Chauhan, Chairperson, Capacity Building Commission.

The committee will submit its report to the Department of Personnel and Training within one month.

The memorandum addressed to Chauhan was shared with the Department of School Education and Literacy, and the Department of Personnel and Training.

The development comes following concerns raised by some students and parents over the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system. The board has faced criticism from students and parents over technical glitches, payment failures and access-related issues during the verification and re-evaluation process.

The CBSE earlier in the day opened the online portal for verification of issues observed in scanned copies of answer books and re-evaluation of answers for students dissatisfied with their board exam evaluation.

The CBSE on Tuesday said that its newly launched Class 12 re-evaluation portal had come under multiple cyberattack attempts, even as students continued to report technical glitches while trying to access the platform.
